Day 6 - Work and More Work, with Stripes

Today is laundry day in Nellaland.
I know you'd think I'd have a staff of minions to do this work for me, but no, I still like to take care of cleaning my own underwear.

I've always loved laundromats - they're so retro. You should watch the John Waters film - Pecker - for some great laudromat scenes.

I picked up this striped dress in NYC with my mom a few years back. I sure have worn it alot!

Day 5 - Chalky Stripes

I used to work at a bar called
the Acoustic Grill . My job was to make drinks, pull pints and serve delicious food to the guests of the Grill. However, my favorite part of the job was doing the chalkboard every month!

The Grill has an incredible amount of great live music pass through its doors. Owners (and great bosses I must admit) Steve and Jenny Leigh Purtell have done an amazing job creating an environment where great music flourishes. My personal favorite is rocker Brock Zeman. Every month the chalkboard is a way of promoting upcoming concerts and events. Every month I get to put my own spin on the board - everything from race cars to kissing burgers!

My striped shirt today was purchased in a discount mall in Gatineau (those Quebecois have great clothes).

Twice as Nice - Stripes!

Today I had a coffee and a catch up with my good friend/sister-ish Chrissy. She knows all about my Stripes for a Month plan so when she arrived she was wearing - you guessed it- a Striped Dress!

Chrissy and her partner Kyle are the super motivated people behind Spark Box Studio. Spark Box is a Printmaking studio and Artists Residency located here in Picton, Ontario.

Chrissy and I are working on ideas for some printed goods for an upcoming show in Toronto Zine Dreams. This show will be happening during Stripes Month so more on that later...Here's a hint though - on the way home from coffee this little furry dude hopped up to say hello.

Stripes at Breakfast - Day 3

Now I know you've all heard of the John Hughes classic film called The Breakfast Club - But...I'm actually part of The Breakfast Club. Its a loose bunch of friends that meet up weekly for the BEST breakfast in town at the Picton Harbor Inn, and Bottomless cups of coffee served with some great conversation. We've been meeting for years now, and our servers have become part of the group as well. We even changed days when Tiffany switched her scheduled shift!

Todays dress is by Obey and has an 80's feel with, batwing arms. I bought it in Montreal this New Years before this little striped plan was even hatched.

Stripes Day 2

Hi there all - y'all - Its Day 2 of Stripes month!
So today I helped my friend Kelly at her shop Kelly's, www.kellysshop.com we re-organized her jewelry display cases using her collection of vintage Trixie Belden and Dr. Kildaire books. I think the cases look kind of sweet and a little bit vintage. I also bought this awesome striped dress at Kelly's a few months ago but I've been saving it for Stripes month!

Since this blog is a little bit about me and my life these photos were taken on the steps of a heritage church nextdoor to the Inn where I work. This old church is pretty spooky but even more freaky was the little bat that was visiting me on the step. I'm sure he was harmless - not the blood-sucking kind.

So glad you checked in! So what are you doing in August? Its the busiest time of the year in Picton, Ontario where I live. So I thought I'd try a something to make my mornings a little easier...for the rest of this month I'll be planning my wardrobe around 2-things - Black and White (to start anyways).

I've been collecting striped clothing and I'll be wearing a new outfit everyday. Be sure to check back for a little glimpse into my closet and my little corner of the world!

STRIPES!

I Love Stripes!
This is a good thing because I'm going to be so sick of them by the end of August!
"Why?" you might ask?
Well I've given myself a challenge...I'm going to wear a different striped dress everyday for the month of August! That's right 31-dresses, all differently striped.
I can't wait to get started!
